Where He called His disciples

Much of Jesus's ministry happened on and around the Sea of Galilee, a large inland lake surrounded by fishing villages and rolling hills. It was here He walked along the shore and called His first disciples, fishermen named Peter, Andrew, James, and John, saying simply, “Follow me.”

He taught from boats and on hillsides. He calmed the storm. He fed five thousand from a boy's small lunch. He walked on the water in the fourth watch of the night. The disciples watched, listened, and slowly began to understand who He was.

“And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Where He met a woman at the well

Traveling north from Judea through Samaria, Jesus stopped to rest at Jacob's well outside the small town of Sychar. It was noon. He was alone. A Samaritan woman came to draw water, alone, at an hour when most women would have been resting in the shade.

He spoke to her, which broke two social rules at once. He knew everything about her, and He had chosen to sit and wait for her anyway. By the end of their conversation, she had become the first person to whom He openly declared Himself the Messiah. She ran back to her town and brought others to meet Him.

“The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.”

Where He gave Himself

Jerusalem was the heart of Israel and the place of Jesus's final week. He entered the city on a young donkey to the cries of “Hosanna.” He cleansed the temple. He shared a final meal with His disciples in an upper room. He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane until His sweat became as great drops of blood.

He was arrested, tried, condemned, and crucified outside the city walls at a place called Golgotha. Three days later, the tomb was empty. The women who came to anoint His body found two angels who said, “Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen.”

“He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”
