Who is Jesus Christ?

Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Savior and Redeemer of the world.

Before the foundation of the earth, He stood with the Father as the Firstborn of all spirits and was chosen to be the Redeemer of mankind. Under the Father's direction, He created the heavens and the earth and all things that in them are.

About two thousand years ago, in the meridian of time, He was born of Mary in Bethlehem of Judea. He grew up in Nazareth, the son of a carpenter. At the age of thirty He began His public ministry. He preached faith, hope, charity, repentance, and love. He performed miracles, healing the sick, raising the dead, opening the eyes of the blind, and giving hope to the poor and the broken. He called twelve apostles and ordained them to bear witness of Him in all the world.

He suffered for the sins of all humanity, rich and poor, bond and free, in the Garden of Gethsemane. Soon after, He was unfairly tried by those who rejected Him and sentenced to one of the most agonizing deaths of the time, being hung upon a cross on a hill called Calvary.

After His death, His body was laid in a tomb and sealed off by a great stone. For three days His body lay in the tomb. Very early in the morning of the first day of the week, His mother and other women who were close followers of His came to the tomb and found the stone rolled away. They saw an angel in a long white garment who declared, “He is not here, He is risen.” Jesus rose again from the grave, breaking the bands of death for every man and woman who has ever lived or ever will live upon the earth. This means all of us, when we die, will also be resurrected to perfect, immortal bodies.

After His resurrection, He visited other nations and peoples, including those upon the American continent, declaring unto them the same gospel He had declared in Jerusalem. He instructed His disciples and laid the foundations of His Church in every land where He came.

He lives today. He leads His restored Church, governed by His chosen apostles and prophets. Through Him, all people may return home to God and live forever, with their families, in eternal peace.
